The Zen of Drawing

Paint a Better Painting

Stuck in the same old rut? Do you rely too much on photos then find yourself unhappy with the results? Learn to express yourself artistically rather than just copying the photo. Find the support to loosen up on paintings you can’t seem to finish or begin new ones waiting for interpretation.
Daily/Weekly Painter

Ready to join the movement of painting and posting a daily (or weekly) painting? Join the fun of composing your subject and executing it quickly and concisely. The spontaneity and excitement of creating small, little gems will enhance your skills in a short amount of time. |
TEEN CLASSES
Creating Abstractions (Ages: 14-17)

Discover your creative self and learn the basics of abstract painting. This course will explore the artistic style of abstract art by studying and applying the techniques of artists such as Picasso, Chagall and Kandinsky. Composition, design, balance, line and edges, positive and negative spaces, light and shade will all be addressed.
Drawing and Painting with Different Mediums (Ages: 11-14)

Tuesday | 4:30pm–6:30pm | $390 12 Weeks | September 29 - December 15
This foundation course will introduce students to new ways of working that strengthen their artistic skills. We will work in a variety of mediums such as oil paint on various surfaces, giant oil sticks, ink, some new watercolor techniques and the more traditional mediums such as charcoal and pencil. Students will develop their own style while trying some new things. The school will provide all materials.
Breathe Life into your Fantasy Creatures (Ages: 13-16)

Course will not meet on September 23 why & November 25
This course will encourage the student to develop their creations into more finished works of art. Science fiction and fantasy art has a long distinguished history and the future for this work is immense. We will create fantasy worlds while learning composition, perspective, use of color, foreshortening, action, etc. Take your creations from simple marker drawings to elaborate finished works of art. The School will provide all materials. |

The Art of the Still Life
This course offers beginners interested in establishing their drawing or painting skills a relaxed atmosphere in which to grow. It will also encourage someone looking to sharpen existing skills. Basic media and techniques will be explored with a variety of still life set ups.

Acrylic Artistry
Enjoy the ease and speed of acrylic painting. Learn to master the medium, be creative and have fun. A variety of exercises will enhance your skills, from color mixing to realism to abstraction. Or you may work on a subjects of your own choosing. Chris has been an instructor at Silvermine School of Art for over twenty years.

Friday Open Studio
Come and create using any medium in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Learn new techniques or perfect your skills. Working on a subject matter of your choice, this is your time to get your creative juices flowing.

Drawing
Students will spend time studying the dynamics of the face to create portrait in oils. Understanding the proportions and planes of the face is crucial and by using several techniques they will achieve success. Class will meet the first 3 Fridays of every month with a $5 fee per class to pay for the model.

Teaching at the Nest Arts Factory

Painting Glass
Learn the nuances associated with creating the transparency of glass bottles. Still lifes involving glass is a common subject so artists need to paint the reflections, highlights and lowlights to give dimensionality. Also covered will be ellipses and the bottle in perspective. These small workshops will be individually catered to all, whether beginner to more experienced painters.
Interested in workshops focusing on specific painting problems? The NEST Arts Factory will be offering one day, two hour workshops beginning on Sunday March 10th from 1:30-3:30pm for $40 per person. Future workshops will deal with glass, clouds, copper and shiny objects, painting with a knife and more.
